Usher in winter’s final hurrah this week with odes to the Irish, National Pi Day, women and Asian-inspired cuisine.
Cheers to women
Mola, a Michelin Bib Gourmand-listed tapas eatery, celebrates women all month with a drink menu honoring the dozen women working work there, with selections including the Ruth Bader Gimlet and the Molahatter. Bonus: one dollar from every cocktail sold this month helps support two organizations: La Clínica del Pueblo and the District Music Project. (3155 Mt. Pleasant St. NW, cocktails $12 each)
Taste of Asia
Skip the jet lag and head over to 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church on weekdays to try 10 Asian-inspired dishes for lunch or dinner. Expected dishes include Peking duck pho, Korean pork BBQ, and sakura ice cream with cherry blossom Chantilly. (2941 Fairview Park Dr., $28 and $38 for two and three-course lunch menus, or $38- $58 for three-five-course tasting menus at dinner, tax and gratuity not included)
St. Patrick’s Day-ish
Ireland at The Wharf bills itself as the biggest St. Patrick’s Day festival and it’s got a couple of new features this year: a whiskey tasting and VIP experience. The tasting brings you samples from Roe & Co. Irish Whiskey and Bailey’s Irish Cream. Splurge on the VIP experience and you’ll score a swag bag, access to the Guinness beer garden and Roe & Co. whiskey bar, catered snacks, opportunities to meet the band, and more. Whether you go as a VIP or not, expect live Irish music all day, Irish dancers, and an afterparty nearby at Kirwan’s Irish Pub. (101 District Square SW, Saturday, 1 p.m.-6 p.m., $75 for VIP access, free entry otherwise)
Update, 3/12/20: Ireland at the Wharf has been postponed to a date to be announced.
Oh my Guinness!
The Dubliner kicks off St. Patrick’s Day early with 46-cent Guinness in the morning, followed by live music the entire day with three bands on two stages. Why the 46-cent price tag? Because that’s how long The Dubliner’s been in business. Over the years, the city’s oldest Irish pub has attracted many heavy hitters, including former President Barack Obama, former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. (4 F St. NW, Tuesday, 9 a.m.-10 a.m. for the Guinness)
