Eleven people were arrested Tuesday in downtown D.C. near Lafayette Square and Black Lives Matter Plaza, according to D.C. police.
The arrests happened around 9:30 p.m., WUSA9 reported, but video footage appears to show arrests happening at different times of day. The Washington Post reported the arrests happened in a series of incidents.
One of the 11 people arrested was charged with simple assault and resisting arrest, and another with resisting arrest only, according to Metropolitan Police Department data. Another arrest was on a charge of assault on a police officer, and a fourth was on a charge of threats to kidnap or injure and resisting arrest. Four others were arrested on charges of “crowding, obstructing or incommoding.”
Now the activists arrested in Tuesday’s scuffle with police have reportedly been released and had charges against them dropped, according to DCMediaGroup, which covered the incident as it occurred. D.C. Superior Court was unavailable for comment by publication.
A video compilation of the arrests posted by DCMediaGroup on Twitter said it’s uncertain why charges were dropped, but that activists were seen blocking H Street during the scuffle.

Just informed 9 protesters arrested at #BlackLivesMatter Plaza of those #OccupyHStreet protesters. Was just told “we need people down here”.
With police sweep of tents yesterday, this is unsurprising. Police keep escalating tactics as ppl refuse to stop #DCProtests pic.twitter.com/thBfKNZ6B5

🤬 MPD AT IT AGAIN 🤬
Watch officers suddenly jump and arrest a peaceful protester at #BlackLivesMatterPlaza. Disgusting behavior yet again by MPD.
Does this agency deserve a $500+ million budget?!
