U.S. Marshals have arrested an additional suspect in the 2018 shooting of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson.
Marshals said that Isaiah Murchison was arrested Thursday around 8:15 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Virginia, WTOP first reported. According to the Associated Press, Murchison was charged with first degree murder.
A representative for the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the arrest. The U.S. Marshals did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Wilson was shot and injured in the Clay Terrace neighborhood in Northeast D.C. on July 16, 2018, while going out to buy ice cream. She was later pronounced dead, and her killing shocked the community.
Video of the incident shows four people in masks jumping out of a car and spraying bullets on a crowd gathered in a building courtyard. A 2019 indictment identified Murchison as one of the gunmen, according to the Washington Post.
Police described it as an “indiscriminate” shooting, and her mother called her killers “cowards.” Four adults were also injured and hospitalized.
Eleven people were charged in connection with the shooting and most had been arrested, but Murchison had evaded law enforcement for more than a year.
