D.C. State Board of Education member Ashley MacLeay made an appearance in last night’s Republican National Convention, posing with some questionable decor.

MacLeay, who recently faced criticism for making racist remarks during a school board meeting about school policing, stood with four other D.C. Republicans officially nominating President Donald Trump for the Republican ticket during the roll call. MacLeay currently holds the at-large seat on the board.
Social media users had quite a lot to say about the almost split-second clip of the GOP’ers broadcasting from a majority-Democratic city. The D.C. Council’s Twitter account shared a screen grab raising questions about the altered D.C. flag the background, which shows 10-pointed stars instead of the traditional five. Some suggested it was two D.C. flags layered over one another, while others thought it resembled a mash-up between the Chicago and D.C. flags. On top the flag appears to sit collectable memorabilia like decorative plates, and two mini figurines of the White House and the Capitol Building.
MacLeay’s cameo is not the only time D.C. will get a nod during this year’s RNC. Melania Trump is expected address the convention from the Rose Garden, and the president will accept his nomination from the White House lawn.
