A Colorado man who was charged in federal court last week with threatening House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also made multiple threats of violence against D.C. and Mayor Muriel Bowser, new court filings show.

According to records in the District Court for D.C., Cleveland Grover Meredith Jr. “transmitted numerous communications to several individuals in which he threatened to commit violence” in the city between Jan. 4 and Jan. 7, including a threat against Bowser’s life.

Last week, Meredith Jr. (who drove to D.C. in his truck on Jan. 6) was charged in federal court with transmitting a threat in interstate commerce, possession of an unregistered firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. The District Court filing, submitted Wednesday by acting U.S. Attorney for D.C. Michael Sherwin, outlines in detail the violent nature of Meredith Jr.’s texts and requests that he be detained without bond as he awaits trial.

The records detail numerous profane, graphic, and misogynistic threats against Bowser, Pelosi, and the city, sent via text message by Meredith Jr. during the time he was traveling to and staying in D.C.

“I may wander over to the Mayor’s office and put a 5.56 in her skull,” reads one text sent on Jan. 7, directed at Bowser.

Acting D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee and Bowser declined to provide detail on the mayor’s security measures in light of the threats.

“I get threats a lot,” Bowser said Wednesday. “If MPD thinks it’s actionable, then they will enact any actions they think are necessary.”

Other texts targeted Pelosi, including one calling her a “Dead Bitch Walking.”

Meredith Jr. also made threats against the city, including one text that read “Strategizing on best way to assault this city …do I go in fast on Sportbike or do I go in the back door on dirt bike…Staying one more day since I got here late, need to FK with these commies.” He expressed a desire to “burn D.C. to the FKG ground,” according to the filing.

“His threats were graphic—he threatened to shoot a public official on live television, to put a bullet in her head,” reads Sherwin’s filing. “His threats were vulgar and misogynistic. What is more, the defendant clearly took great pleasure in envisioning violence, which he described as ‘fun’ and ‘target practice.'”

At the time of his arrest on Jan. 7, Meredith Jr. was in possession of a Glock and a rifle, as well as several high capacity magazines and rounds of ammunition.

“The defendant went through a lot of trouble to put himself in a position to carry out his threats, and had the means at his disposal to do so,” reads the court document.

According to an affidavit in D.C. Superior Court, Meredith Jr. also assaulted an individual on Jan. 7, allegedly head-butting a person, knocking them to the ground, and continuing the assault.

“A clearly disturbed, deranged, and dangerous individual that fantasizes about committing horrific acts of violence and takes countless steps to carry them out by driving across several states with a trailer stocked with thousands of rounds of ammunition and multiple firearms—including an assault style rifle—should not remain in the community,” Sherwin writes in the filing.
