A computer and other items were stolen from Casa Ruby Wellness Center earlier this month, according to D.C. Police.
The items, including a computer, paycheck, and files, valued at $1,500, were taken after a burglar broke a window at 1254 Pleasant St. SE on March 8, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.
Casa Ruby is a multicultural organization that serves the LGBTQ community in the region. It assists with preventative health, housing, immigration services and aid for victims of sexual violence. Ruby Corado, the prominent transgender activist who opened the organization in 2012 and currently serves as director, announced in January that she will step down within the next two years. This facility in historic Anacostia opened in August 2019, joining a 24/7 center in Shepherd Park.
The Washington Blade first reported on the burglary this week.

Kisha Allure, a case manager, told the Blade that the break-in happened while she was gone, but called police when she returned. Allure did not immediately respond to DCist/WAMU’s request for comment.
Police are looking for a suspect and are reviewing cameras in the area. Anyone with information about the break-in should call police at 202-727-9099.
Elsewhere, D.C. Police are investigating the burglaries of a handful of businesses on H Street NE, including DC Harvest, which was broken into three times in recent months.
