A car struck and killed a bicyclist during a multi-vehicle crash in Northwest D.C. on Friday night.

A driver struck and killed a bicyclist in a crash that involved four vehicles in Northwest D.C. on Friday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Massachusetts Ave. and 2nd St. NW, according to a statement from the D.C. Police. The driver of a Honda hit both the back of a Kia and the bicyclist at the same time, according to D.C. Police. The drivers of both vehicles and the bicyclist were traveling in the same direction. The Kia then entered the intersection of Massachusetts Ave. and 2nd St., hitting a van, while the driver of the Honda hit a different car that was traveling in the same block, according to police.

The bicyclist was taken to a local hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries, and later died. Three other people, who were occupants of other vehicles involved the crash, were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to a D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson.

Official have not yet identified the bicyclist.

WTOP reported that a Capital Bikeshare bike and a helmet were found near the scene of the crash on Friday night.

“Near the damaged car parts [laid] the damaged Capital Bikeshare bicycle on its side, on the pavement; a helmet about 10 feet away,” WTOP reported. “A van, head-on into a traffic signal [with] several other damaged vehicles.”

According to WTOP, D.C. Police closed all traffic on Massachusetts Avenue and 3rd Street to investigate the incident, and roadways reopened later in the evening.
