Starting this week, Montgomery County and Prince George’s County public libraries are distributing at-home rapid tests.

Montgomery County began distribution at 19 public libraries on Monday, Jan. 11. According to the county’s emergency preparedness manager, Sean O’Donnell, nearly 94,000 kits were administered on the first day. For the remainder of the week, each branch will be limited to distributing between 1,800 and 2,500 test kits, according to assistant chief administrative officer Earl Stoddard. This may change as more shipments come in later this weekend. Currently, the county has more than 500,000 kits, with an order placed for an additional 2 million

The following library branches will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to pick-up a rapid test kit, which contains two tests:

Aspen Hill
Chevy Chase
Damascus
Davis
Gaithersburg
Little Falls
Potomac
Silver Spring
White Oak

These branches will be distributing tests Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.:

Connie Morella (Bethesda)
Germantown
Kensington Park
Long Branch
Marilyn Praisner (Burtonsville)
Olney
Quince Orchard

Residents are limited to two test kits per person, per visit, and the kits will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Libraries will be distributing iHealth rapid testing kits, the same type of rapid test D.C.’s public libraries have been giving out. In a newsletter sent just before the New Year, County Executive Marc Elrich said D.C. helped Montgomery County secure the orders for the testing kits.

According to a county spokesperson, the test kits are intended for Montgomery County residents, and they are encouraged to bring some form of identification to pick-up the test — either a government-issued ID or a piece of mail with a Montgomery County address. Residents should report their results on a new online portal, launched Tuesday.

Starting on Wednesday, Jan. 12, libraries and community centers in Prince George’s County will begin distributing rapid, at-home tests. According to County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, the county will be distributing 25,000 kits per week. Test kits are limited to one per person, and residents should bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, utility bill, or lease agreement.

The following community centers will open for distribution at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and 8 a.m. on Thursday. Distribution will continue as supplies last:

Hillcrest Heights
Westphalia
Kentland – Prince George’s Ballroom
Cedar Heights
Langley Park
Southern Regional Tech and Rec Complex

The following libraries will distribute the rapid tests starting at 3 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Distribution may end earlier, if supply runs out.
