Police are investigating the death of a D.C. woman that may be linked to an alleged serial killer who is suspected of killing four women in Virginia.

Speaking at a press conference Friday, Fairfax County Police Major Ed O’Carroll said authorities received a tip that Anthony Robinson, 35, may be connected to the death of a woman whose body was found in a shopping cart near Union Station in D.C. in September. Davis said “digital evidence” puts Robinson, who is currently being held at the Rockingham County Jail in Harrisonburg, in the vicinity of the woman around the time she disappeared.

“We believe this may be Anthony Eugene Robinson’s fifth victim,” said Fairfax County Police Major Ed O’Carroll at a Friday night news conference.

According to a D.C. Police spokesperson, the body of 40-year-old Sonya Champ was found on F Street Northeast near Union Station on Sept. 7, 2021. D.C. police are also actively investigating the case, and did not provide a cause of death. The spokesperson told WAMU/DCist that Champ had no known address.

Robinson was first arrested by Harrisonburg police on Nov. 23 and charged with two counts of first-degree murder for killing Allene Elizabeth Redomon, 54, and Tonita Lorice Smith, 39. Both women were found dead in a vacant parking lot in Harrisonburg. In December, Fairfax County police announced that they had identified Robinson as the primary suspect in the murders of two women whose bodies were found in a container near the Moon Inn in Alexandria. On Friday, Fairfax Police Chief Kevin Davis said DNA confirmed the identities of the two women — Cheyenne Brown, 29, and Stephanie Harrison, 48. Brown’s identity was initially confirmed after family members recognized tattoos on her body. She was four months pregnant at the time she went missing from D.C.

Authorities are referring to Robinson as a serial killer. They believe that he met the women at motels before killing them, and moved the their remains to different locations in a shopping cart. Davis said Friday that authorities believe Robinson used dating sites like Plenty of Fish and Tagged to meet the women.

Fairfax County Police are working with more than 35 police departments in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to review existing missing person cases and identify any commonalities, Davis said. The FBI’s behavioral analysis unit is also working with Fairfax County police to identify a victimology.

Robinson has not yet been charged with the murders of Brown and Harrison, although Davis said charges can be expected in the near future. Brown, who went missing from D.C. in September 2021, was four months pregnant at the time of her disappearance. According to Davis, Brown’s mother described Brown as having “a huge heart. She was trusting, and thought of everyone as her friend.” He said Harrison’s daughter described her as “the kindest person, who helped everyone…who would give you her last dime.”
