Three Smithsonian museums — the Anacostia Community Museum, the National Postal Museum, and the National Air and Space Museum — will reopen next week, after more than a month of omicron-related closures.

The Anacostia Community Museum will open on Wednesday, March 9, and the Postal Museum and the Air and Space Museum will open on Friday, March 11. All three had closed temporarily in early January due to staffing shortages, as the region experienced an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases. (The National Museum of African Art and the National Museum of Asian Art had also closed temporarily during the omicron wave in late December, but reopened in January).

The three museums will be operating on a modified schedule when they reopen. If you’re looking to visit the The National Air and Space Museum, though, time is of the essence; the museum will be closing again on March 28 for planned renovations that will take at least six months, the Smithsonian announced last fall. The west wing of the museum is expected to reopen by fall of 2022, with a variety of new exhibits.

The Anacostia Community Museum: Wednesday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The National Postal Museum: Friday-Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

National Air and Space Museum: Thursday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Other Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo will continue to operate on the modified schedules implemented during the omicron surge. You can see a full schedule of Smithsonian hours here.

This post has been updated to reflect that the Anacostia Community Museum is reopening on Wednesday, March 9, and the Postal Museum and the Air and Space Museum will open on Friday, March 11.
