FRIDAY MARCH 25

CHERRY BLOSSOM: There are numerous ways to celebrate the cherry blossoms in District – but as a reminder, this Friday is the last day of the predicted Peak Bloom window at the Tidal Basin. Start off your weekend by going on the classic walk near the Jefferson Memorial  (go early to avoid the crowds) — or take a virtual tour from the comfort of your home. (Tidal Basin or Virtual; FREE)

FLIPSIDE: Friday is the opening reception of Flipside — a new exhibit at Long View Gallery from local artist Michael Crossett. The exhibit explores different sites around the District through a process that begins with photography and ends with hand-pulled silkscreens. The exhibit will be available through May 1. (Long View Gallery; 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.; FREE)

LIL BUCK: On Friday, Charles “Lil Buck” Riley is bringing his performance “Memphis Jookin’: the Show” to Lincoln Theater. You know the dancer from his collaborations with everyone from Yo-Yo Ma to Madonna — and on Friday, he’s bringing a celebration of his home city of Memphis to the District. (Lincoln Theater; 8:00 p.m.; $30+)

BAROQUE DANCE: Start your weekend off by heading to Arlington for a Baroque dance performance Friday — and then come back on Saturday for the workshop to learn the art form for yourself. The event will feature Paige Whitley-Bauguess & Thomas Baird and the CEM Dance Band. (Saint George’s Episcopal Church; 8:00 pm Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Saturday; $15 – $100)

SATURDAY MARCH 25

BOARD GAMES: It’s here: this weekend with WashingtonCon, the District’s tabletop gaming convention. The event started in 2015 as a one-day event — and has now grown to become a weekend-long affair at the Convention Center. Expect events including “Demos and Prototypes!” and “Sidereal Confluence” and sessions on role playing Games like “Dungeons & Dragons 5e: The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh”. (Washington Convention Center; Starts at 10:00 a.m.; $15 – $65)

STAND UP: On Saturday, Improbable Comedy is hosting a stand up performance with comics Jason Weems, Brittany Carney, and Maddy Brannon. The event is actually the set that was supposed to be performed on New Years Day — but was postponed due COVID-19. Now in March, the show goes on. (Black Box Theatre; $25; 8:00 p.m.)

ONE ACT PLAYS: Spend your Saturday with the Arlington Players, as they perform three one-act plays that have all won this year’s Little Theatre of Alexandria One Act Competition. The evening will include the plays Across a Crowded Room, Guinea Pig Apocalypse, and Wild Horses. (Thomas Jefferson Community Theatre; 8:00 p.m.; $15+)

WASHINGTON CHORUS: This Saturday, visit the Strathmore to witness “America’s Requiem: A Knee to the Neck.” This new composition is based on the poetry of the text of Herbert Martin, Professor Emeritus of The University of Dayton Ohio, and is held in honor of the memory of George Floyd. The National Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorale, the Washington Chorus, and the Howard University Chorale all perform. (Music Center at Strathmore; 8:00 p.m.; $59+ for Adults, Kids Free)

CONGRESSIONAL CHORUS: This weekend is also the performance of Congressional Chorus and NorthEast Senior Singers’ show Beautifully Human at National City Christian Church. The performance celebrates diversity through Credo and Where We Find Ourselves. (National City Christian Church; 7:30 p.m.; $35+)

RHINOCÉROS!: On Sunday, watch the first preview performance of RHINOCÉROS!, a new play from Spooky Action Theater that explores physical and ideological transformation of a small town. The show was first produced in 1959 and this year’s performance in the District will include large, life-size puppetry to present the transformation of people into animals. (Spooky Action Theater; $39; 3:00 p.m.)

LIVE PODCAST: On Sunday, Welcome to Night Vale (the hit twice-monthly podcast about all things spooky) is performing live in the District as a part of their 2022 World Tour. The Haunting of Night Vale will feature Cecil Baldwin, Symphony Sanders, Kate Jones — along with original music by Disparition. (Lincoln Theatre; 7:00 p.m.; $35+)
