FRIDAY, AUG. 26

FRACTURED FAIRYTALES: Kick off your weekend with Anacostia Art Center for a showing of their new production, Family and Other Fractured Fairytales. The performance, led by an all-women ensemble, uses multiple media (including spoken word, music, and movement) to explore femininity, parenthood, family, and identity. (Anacostia Arts Center; 7:30 p.m.; $5 – $30)

LATIN MUSIC & DANCE FESTIVAL: This weekend, put DCBX14 on your list. Starting on Thursday, the Latin music, dance, fitness festival plans to welcome over 7,000 attendees in a celebration of Latin culture. Now in its 14th year, the event will include over 200 sessions at the Renaissance hotel in downtown D.C. (Renaissance Washington DC Downtown; Times vary; $60+)

COMEDY SHOW: On Friday, head to DC Comedy Loft for T.J. Ferguson Presents ‘Overdue’.  Ferguson is based in the District, but you might also recognize him from festivals in other cities including the Underground Comedy Festival, Pittsburgh Comedy Festival, and Oak City Comedy Festival. Expect to hear topics from dating to police brutality. (DC Comedy Loft; 8 p.m.; $15)

JAZZ IN DC: Self-described as “a prelude to the DC Jazz Festival,” the A Tribute to Jazz in DC event arrives at All Souls Church Unitarian this weekend. The performances are presented by Ayo and will feature Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra and honor District legends including Duke Ellington, Shirley Horn, Ruth Brown and Blanche Calloway. WOMEN’S CYCLE FEST: On Saturday, celebrate Women’s Equality Day with DC Bike Ride and REI. The “Summer Ride and Cycle Fest” is open to all genders — and will include a ride around the District before ending at Women’s Cycle Fest. (REI NoMa; 9 a.m.; FREE)

MEGAFEST 2022: This weekend, the “MegaFest 2022” beer festival arrives in District. The Black-owned event describes itself as a “beer festival meets block party” and will feature live DJs and libations from breweries including Soul Mega, Sankofa Beer Company, and Urban Garden Brewing. (The Parks at Walter Reed; 1:00 p.m.; $40+)

HAUNTED CINEMA: Spend your Saturday afternoon with the National Gallery of Art for their screening of “The Man Who Haunted Himself.” The event is a part of their “Dark Mirrors: The Double in Cinema” series, which explores “doubled forms” in cinema (think alter egos, doppelgängers, and clones). (National Gallery of Art, East Building Auditorium; 2 p.m.; FREE)

TASTE N SHOP: This Saturday, the DMV Black Restaurant Week is hosting “Taste N Shop” — a celebration of Black businesses in the District featuring local Chef Pinké. The event will feature Black culinary leaders presenting some of their favorite dishes with accompanying workshops. (Anacostia Arts Center; 2 p.m.; FREE)

WOMEN’S HOCKEY: This weekend, the DMV Women’s Hockey group is hosting “Golden Girls vs. Spice Girls All-Star Game and Tailgate.” The event is held to connect girl hockey players (and fans of any gender) to collegiate and professional level women players. Expect costumes, a food truck, music and meet-and-greets with players. (The Gardens Ice House; 3:30 p.m.; FREE with donations accepted)

PUNK SHOW: On Saturday, Rhizome DC is hosting three punk/rock bands: Time is Fire, Club U.S.A., and Knifing Around. Time is Fire is based in the District and “mixes pan-cultural rhythms, floor-shaking grooves and acid-laced guitar into a mind-expanding geopolitical dance party.” (Rhizome DC; 7 p.m.; $10 – $20)

COMEDY:  Unwind this weekend by competing in “The Comedy Karaoke Trivia Fun Time Show with Blaire Postman.” The Trivia event encourages teams (tip: it’s alright to show up alone) to compete in trivia and karaoke and features stand up from one of the District’s favorite local comedians. BLACK GEORGETOWN: On Sunday, join the “History of Black Georgetown” walking tour. The tour will explore stories from Georgetown’s first Black residents, the neighborhood’s history of in the slave trade, and later era of gentrification — and how the residents made their mark on the nation. (Meets in front of Insomnia Cookies in Georgetown; 1 p.m.; $15+))

LIKE A DIAMOND: Head to Alexandria for a Neil Diamond tribute. The Birchmere show will feature “Sweet Caroline,” “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” and other classics performed by David Carlin King and The Gold Diamond Band. (The Birchmere; 7:30 p.m.; $39.50)
