Four adult men were shot on North Capitol Street on Thursday afternoon and later hospitalized, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Officers were notified of a shooting at 1:09 p.m. and responded to the scene at the 1200 block of North Capitol Street NW shortly after, police told reporters at a press conference.

Three of the victims were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while the other is being treated for critical injuries, police said. There is currently a search for a white sedan with potentially two suspects in the car traveling eastbound on New York Ave, NW.

First District Commander Tasha Bryant said preliminary information suggests shots were fired from the car.

“We’re still in the early stages of our investigation,” Bryant said at Thursday’s press conference. “We will push out more video images of the suspects’ vehicle and any information as our investigation unfolds.”

The shooting is one of several mass shootings to take place in D.C. this year (the Gun Violence Archive, which tracks gun violence incidents across the U.S., defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more people are shot). It comes during another deadly year in D.C., with 157 homicides so far in 2022 — roughly equal to the 160 at this time in 2021, which was the deadliest year in the District since 2003.

The shooting also comes after another homicide on the same block on Oct. 2. The victim in that fatal shooting was later identified as Antonio Waller, and MPD is currently offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Cure The Streets DC held a community response to the incident promoting violence intervention and prevention.

Police don’t yet know whether the shooting is connected to the Oct 2 homicide, Bryant said.

“We’re here. We’re going to be here, we’re not going anywhere. We’re committed to removing violent offenders from these communities, and we’re counting on the public to help us do that,” Bryant said.
