Call Your Mother will continue its bagel boom with a new outpost in Chevy Chase, replacing the recently shuttered Little Red Fox on Connecticut Avenue.

The “Jew-ish” deli confirmed a Popville scuttlebutt with an Instagram post Tuesday morning, in which co-owners Andrew Dana and Dani Moreira give a sneak peak inside the forthcoming shop. Its previous occupant — the beloved bakery, cafe, and market Little Red Fox — announced it would be closing its doors in December for personal reasons. When owners Matt and Jena Carr announced the closure, they hinted at who’d be taking over, writing “Don’t worry, we know you’ll be very happy with the fabulous local businesses that will be taking over our spaces in the new year,” according to Washingtonian.

“Nobody was more gutted to hear about Little Red Fox closing than we were, we go way back with them,” says Dana in an Instagram video posted Tuesday (Timber Pizza Co., also opened by Dana and Moreira, used Little Red Fox hot sauce). “When Matt [Carr] came to us and asked us if we wanted to take over the lease it was a no-brainer…we’re excited to be the latest store to carry on this tradition.”

It’s the eighth location for the Biden-approved bagel spot, which opened its flagship Park View location in 2018. Perhaps the only thing spreading in D.C. as fast as COVID itself, the shop rapidly expanded during the pandemic, opening shops in Capitol Hill, West End, Logan Circle, and Bethesda. Over the years, Call Your Mother has earned a local cult following as well as some national shout-outs; yes, from one Joe Biden, and also from Bon Appetit and Eater.

Later this spring, Dana and Moreira will bring their bagelry out west, with two forthcoming locations in Colorado. Virginia is still waiting for their turn, but Dana told Washingtonian in August that they have plans to move into the commonwealth eventually.

The Van Ness spot, located at 5035 Connecticut Ave NW, isn’t the only … bagel in the oven (?) for Dana and Moreira. Tuesday’s video reveals Moreira is expecting a baby.
