DISCRIMINATION IN NAVY: To mark Emancipation Day in D.C., check out this series of scholarly programs that explore the Civil War and aftermath from the perspective of African Americans. This year, historians Regina Akers, Edward Valentin Jr., and Joseph Reidy discuss the discrimination African Americans faced and persevered through in the Navy.
