O.A.R. AND GOO GOO DOLLS: The story of O.A.R. — the ‘00s rock band best known for their certified karaoke banger, “Shattered (Turn The Car Around)” — begins in Rockville, Maryland, where most of the band’s members grew up. They’ll be playing a hometown show this weekend at Merriweather, joined by the Goo Goo Dolls. (Merriweather Post Pavilion; 7 p.m.; $45+)
QUEENS OF COUNTRY: Shake off your nine to five this Friday at FANCY: Queens of Country Party, a dance party taking over the 9:30 Club. The DJ is promising a healthy dose of country divas, including Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Faith Hill, Loretta Lynn, Carrie Underwood, Kacey Musgraves, Sheryl Crow, The Chicks and more. THE HOT SEAT: This weekend at Tight Five Pub, local and touring comedians will be taking the stage to eat hot sauce and answer hot questions. Inspired by celebrity YouTube interview series Hot Ones, this comedy show will put performers like Anya Pines, Tre Solo and more in the hot seat, challenging them to answer questions as they eat increasingly spicy wings. Pay a one-time $40 ticket, and you’ll gain access to 15 yoga, pilates, boxing and barre classes happening on Saturday and Sunday in Logan Circle. SIDEWALK SALE: The dog days aren’t over yet, but at least we get a sidewalk sale out of it. This Saturday, the 24th annual Midcity Dog Days Sidewalk Sale will take over Logan Circle and U Street Corridor, bringing you a day of shopping at your favorite local businesses, as well as nabbing food and drink specials. TRINITY FEST: Get ready to wine and dine — on jerk chicken, specifically — at Trinity Fest, the Caribbean celebration taking place in Poolesville this Saturday. BROWNTOWN: Head downtown to check out BrownTown, an evening of comedy featuring the area’s funniest comedians of color. After selling out all of its shows at the DC Comedy Loft, BrownTown is heading to Union Stage. Usama Siddiquee, a Bengali-American comedian living and working in NYC, headlines. SOUNDS OF THE CITY: Summer isn’t slowing down the sounds of the city in Anacostia, including at the Anacostia Arts Center. The Sounds of the City event Saturday offers an artistic afternoon of pop-up shops from Black-owned businesses, go-go music from DJ Artis, and community workshops. COMPLETA: Celebrate Black women behind the camera this weekend at COMPLETA, a special program of three short films followed by a conversation between artist Simone Leigh and writer Yasmina Price. WATER LANTERN FESTIVAL: Brighten up your weekend at the annual Water Lantern Festival, which returns to National Harbor this weekend.
