While Congress was selecting the next House speaker on Wednesday night, elsewhere in the nation’s capital, it appears something of equal importance was taking place: Locals were snapping pictures of Love is Blind contestants on a hot date.

Madison Allen says she and a friend were out to eat at Urban Roast on G Street NW when a film crew brought a couple into the restaurant and cocktail bar. The duo walked past Allen and her friend in the main dining area and were seated in a room at the back of the restaurant. Allen says she assumed the production crew was filming for Netflix’s popular dating show — where contestants date in “pods” before getting engaged, “sight unseen” — because she’d heard the show was recruiting potential contestants in D.C. (Netflix reportedly asked local gyms and bars to help them scout, and the streaming giant even direct messaged locals on LinkedIn.)

It would appear all that scouting paid off — Allen says a restaurant staff member confirmed the crew was with Netflix. (Netflix representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)

“I passed on my way to the bathroom and when I saw the golden goblets I knew it was for real,” Allen shared with DCist/WAMU over Instagram direct messages, referencing the signature cups the show makes contestants drink out of. She added that the couple and film crew eventually moved outside to continue the date near Urban Roast’s fire pits.

It would appear Allen and her friend weren’t the only ones who spotted the notorious gold-colored wine glasses. A user on X (formerly Twitter) posted that a waiter at a D.C. restaurant she was dining at informed her and her sisters that Love is Blind was filming at the restaurant.

This pre-Halloweekend sighting at Urban Roast confirms a few things. First, the show truly does require the use of golden goblets everywhere. Also, as my colleague Colleen points out, this sighting in the wild confirms that at least one couple survives the show’s insane dating experiment and brief engagement period, and makes it back to D.C.

But it’s unclear when we’ll get to see whether this couple will make it to the altar and beyond, as producers start recruiting and filming seasons well in advance of their release dates.

In the meantime, we might see them again around town. Is anyone down to start a betting pool on which local restaurants and bars make an appearance in the show? Just me? OK.
