WASHINGTON AUTO SHOW: The Washington Auto Show is getting in gear this weekend. This Friday marks the first of nine days of the annual event, which features hundreds of new car models from industry manufacturers, as well as opportunities to test drive and entertainment for the whole family. BATMAN IN CONCERT: Dust off your superhero costume and head to Warner Theatre this Friday for a special presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures’ 1989 Batman. Taking over miXt Food Hall in Brentwood this Saturday, the wellness festival offers a yoga demo, a shea butter workshop, a pop-up market for vegan products and more. BLACK BOOKS MATTER: The first Black mayor of Montgomery, Alabama is coming to D.C. Steven L. Reed is stopping at MahoganyBooks in Anacostia this Saturday to present his memoir, First, Best, as part of the bookstore’s Black Books Matter series. First, Best chronicles Reed’s journey to becoming the first Black mayor of a city rich with Civil Rights history. (MahoganyBooks Anacostia; 2 p.m.; FREE+)
DC GAY GIRLS ANNIVERSARY: It’s been a year since DC Gay Girls Plus launched with the mission of building meaningful sapphic and queer community in the District. JOURNEY THROUGH DEMENTIA: Join the Dancing Wheels Company & School for an evening dedicated to raising awareness around diseases related to dementia and Alzheimer’s. PA’LANTE: “Latin music” is a label that tries to capture so many things, some critics wonder whether it should be a label at all. The new Pa’Lante Serie Cultural Latinoamericana concert series at Joe’s Movement Emporium attempts to untangle the complicated “Latin music” genre by highlighting the diversity of Latin America’s musical traditions. MOZART AND MARK: American abstract painter Mark Rothko was an adamant admirer of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This Sunday, the National Gallery of Art — which is currently exhibiting over 100 Rothko paintings — is exploring the connection between the two men’s art with a Mozart and Mark concert, featuring the Vega String Quartet. Y2K BURLESQUE: Drag brunch is getting a Y2K twist this Sunday at the Comedy Loft, which presents NOW THAT’S WHAT I CALL BURLESQUE, VOL. I. Featuring Coco Gateaux, Fox Martin, Honey Labelle and more, this burlesque variety show will bring a healthy dose of 2000s nostalgia into your weekend.
