D.C. Streetcar service halted for about an hour today after one of the cars in the fleet got in a traffic accident.
Terry Owens, spokesperson for the D.C. Department of Transportation, told DCist that around 2 p.m., someone opened a car door in front of the streetcar on H Street NE between 7th and 8th Streets. There were no injuries reported, but both vehicles were damaged, Owens said.
A photo sent to Popville, which first reported the incident, shows the crash.
Metropolitan Police Department officers gave the vehicle’s driver a citation for failure to yield, according to Owens.
In September, the streetcar and a vehicle collided, leaving one person with minor injuries. And before it finally began serving passengers last February, there was an accident involving an X2 Metrobus and another incident involving a parked police car.
Today’s service resumed just before 3 p.m.
