Today the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics declares the Ward 5 seat once held by Harry Thomas, Jr. vacant, clearing the way for a special election expected to happen on May 15.

The 2012 Primaries: Now With More Early Voting
During the District’s September 2010 primary, one in five voters cast ballots at one of the four early voting sites set up across the city. For the April 3, 2012 primary, the number of early voting sites will double.
During a lengthy hearing yesterday, members of a D.C. Council committee discussed how best to address the ethical scandals which have plagued the District’s elected leaders this year. Still, little consensus emerged on the next steps to take.
