The program to end sexual harassment and assault in bars has expanded its mission.
“We want our public spaces to feel safe,” says Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne Nadeau.
Though the program is still looking to train bars outside of Northwest.
“We wanted to highlight the faces of some of our city’s marginalized identities.”
The program teaches bar staffers to identify and intervene in instances of sexual harassment and assault.
Safe Bars offers certification for establishments who have trained staffers in bystander intervention.
When people see Metro’s ads against sexual harassment, they’re twice as likely to report it.
The 2 p.m. event is in response to an alleged harassment incident on Wednesday afternoon.
The effort is modeled on Metro’s public information campaign.
Advocates against sexual harassment say WMATA has been a great partner.
