Study: $100 Buys You Less In D.C. Than In Any State

These areas are ranked using Regional Price Parities, which “measure the differences in the price levels of goods and services across states and metropolitan areas for a given year.”
The ranking looked at housing prices, as well as the “expense of childcare, healthcare, baby items and utilities.” Using these factors, Redfin calculates that it costs $29,800 to raise a baby for a year.
A two-parent, two-child family needs $88,615 to get by comfortably, if not lavishly, in the D.C. region, according to the Economic Policy Institute.
