Nakamura Nails D.C. Superdelegates

We understand that there’s Washington, and there’s D.C. There are plenty of people who live and work in Washington, but not all of them know much about the District. So we’ve all been enjoying reading today’s article from the Post’s David Nakamura, in which he exposed that point through some hilarious interviews with some of D.C.’s Democratic superdelegates. There are 75 at-large superdelegates appointed by DNC Chair Howard Dean; 15 of them live in Washington,…

Morning Roundup: Slippery When Wet Edition

A happy Friday to you, Washington. Hopefully you all made it in to work on time despite Metro having reduced the speed of their rail cars in several areas this morning. Speed restrictions were in place until 8:10 a.m. along portions of the Orange line in Maryland and Virginia, the Red line from Union Station to Silver Spring and from Shady Grove to Grosvenor, and the Green line from Branch Avenue to Congress Heights…

Could D.C. United Head to Maryland?

The Post’s David Nakamura says some Maryland officials would like to lure D.C. United across the border. Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot, noting the derailed talks between D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and D.C. United owner Victor MacFarlane, wrote a letter to the Maryland Stadium Authority asking them to look at snagging United for themselves.”In the wake of these developments, I would strongly urge the Maryland Stadium Authority to meet with representatives from the United to learn…

Fenty Set to Endorse Obama

The Post’s David Nakamura reports that Mayor Adrian Fenty plans to endorse Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination. An official announcement has yet to come, but the actions of Fenty adviser Jim Hudson, who organized a fundraiser for Obama, suggest the mayor looks set to get behind the Illinois senator’s campaign. Hudson collected $600,000 and endorsements from some of the mayor’s more loyal D.C. Council members: Yvette Alexander (D-Ward 7), Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4)…

Potential Referendum Could Delay School Takeover

Yesterday we told you about the referendum petition approved by the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics regarding Mayor Adrian Fenty’s school takeover legislation, which recently passed the U.S. Senate. The petition was filed by D.C. resident Mary Spencer, who is seeking to put Fenty’s school plan on a special election ballot so that D.C. residents could vote on the issue directly. Today, the WaPo’s David Nakamura clarifies an issue that was speculated about…

Fenty’s First 100 Days Considered

It’s been just over 100 days since D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty took office (106 to be precise), and the WaPo’s David Nakamura took the opportunity to pen a lengthy profile of the impression Fenty has left on the city so far. Fenty, 36, the youngest chief executive in the District’s history, has set out to create a more engaged and responsive government. He was elected in a landslide on a pledge to replace the detached,…

Morning Roundup: Watch Your Step Edition

Many schools are still closed and roads and sidewalks still dangerously icy this morning as the region struggles to dig out of the winter storm that passed through earlier this week. Most of the really bad news continues to come out of the suburbs, where many homes are still without power, and injuries and at least one death have been reported. The Post has a good rundown of the extent of the metro area’s ice…

They’re Saying Boo-urns!

The Post’s David Nakamura reports that RFK did in fact boo Cheney when he took the mound this afternoon to toss out the ceremonial first pitch (an ugly one-hopper, it seems). The jeers from the crowd may be the only heartwarming baseball story today; through 8 innings the Nats are down 5-1 to the Mets, their only run coming on Soriano’s third dinger of the year. D.C. Blogs Roundup: Mayor Williams and the Post

Williams Adds RSS to Blog: D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams seems to be taking the blogging business a little more seriously this time around. In a post dated February 2, Williams proudly announced that due to popular demand, an RSS feed had been added to his blog. But more than being a technical convenience, Williams spun it as a success story of responsive government: One of the things I like about being Mayor is the ability…
