The Weekly Feed: Musical Chairs Edition
Disoriented and Seeing Stars WaPo reviewer Tom Sietsema has released his 2007 Washington Post Dining Guide online. You can catch it on newsstands this weekend. At the top, Cathal Armstrong’s Restaurant Eve has broken through to the four-star category, and his revamped Majestic also made the list. Newcomers Central Michel Richard (3 stars), Proof (2.5), Farrah Olivia (2.5), and Hook (2.5) also made it onto the list. A surprising omission was Brasserie Beck, which Sietsema…

Weekly Music Agenda
MONDAY >> At the ripe young age of 24, Patrick Wolf has already achieved a lot: three albums of brooding electronica and orchestral pop, modeling campaigns for Burberry, headlines in the British tabloids and at least one on-stage altercation that found the lupine violinist attacking his strung-out drummer with a cymbal. Drama notwithstanding, Wolf’s latest, the surprisingly upbeat The Magic Position, is undoubtedly one of this year’s best. Come see what all the fuss is…

About Tonight
>> For those of you who prefer your music pantomimed, tonight’s Air Guitar Competition at the 9:30 Club. should be right up your alley. Just because the guitars are made of air, doesn’t mean they don’t rock! And who knows? The winner of tonight’s competition may very well end up in the winner’s circle at the Air Guitar World Championship in Finland. You can say you saw them before they sold out to the…
This marks the return of DCist’s bar feature, Coalition of the Swilling. Don’t forget Poland! Post by DCist contributor Brandon Gentry It’s no secret: 18th Street can be a real mess, especially on the weekends. Drunk folks crowd the sidewalks, angling for fights and hook-ups. Too many of the bars cater to the lowest common denominator (“Shots! Blaaaargh!”) or to adults playing dress-up (it’s hard to pretend you’re on a secret mission when you’re puking…

Weekly Music Agenda
Sorry for the late arrival of this week’s agenda, but you see, I work in Tysons Corner and I was stuck in traffic. Now on to our picks! Curd Snack Attack
Most of the time, eating a sizable chunk of cheese in one sitting is unthinkable — and usually pretty unhealthy. But we discovered something recently that made us feel a little better about it. At Alexandria’s outpost of Russian Gourmet, a specialty store carrying all manner of Eastern European and Russian grocery items, we picked up four varieties of chocolate-covered cheesecake bars. And lest you think this is purely a Russian treat, we managed to…

The Bulgari Connection
Until recently, we felt lukewarm about Bistro Bulgari, a Bulgarian joint that resides at the foot of Crystal City’s restaurant row. Perhaps it was the fact that, in the numerous times we’ve been to Bulgari, the dining room was never more than at half capacity, which lent itself to the gloomy atmosphere of a restaurant’s probable demise. Or maybe it was the fact that no matter how good the food was, we somehow found ourselves…

Loosen Your Borscht Belt
In cities with a large Eastern European population, one can usually spot several cheap-eats Polish diners serving all sorts of starchy goodies, from pillowy steamed pierogies to borscht to apple cake. Washington may be an international city, but Eastern Europe is sorely underrepresented as far as dining options go. Indeed, our favorite aforementioned comfort foods are only available at two posh and pricey places. That’s not to say, of course, that we didn’t mind parting…
