Several employees walked out during a lunch rush after the owners declined to voluntarily recognize their union.

Food service workers employed by Compass Group — whose contract expired in January — are picketing outside the World Bank on Wednesday.

The school board for Virginia’s largest school system voted late last night to grant 28,000 employees the right to collectively bargain.

Organizers decided to go public with the news after reports that hospital management had discovered the union campaign.

The union will consist of more than 300 employees at the studio, which is best known for producing the popular video game series Fallout and Elder Scrolls.

Under the new ordinance, more than 4,000 county employees – including law enforcement and firefighters – will be eligible to bargain over increased pay and benefits.

The contract gives workers a $20 per hour minimum wage as well as affordable health insurance and pension contributions.

Workers and their employer reached a deal that guarantees wage increases for nearly everyone in the union. The deal was negotiated in under a year, less time than most contracts typically take.

Contract negotiations should begin soon. Roughly 50 retail workers are fighting for pay raises and better staffing levels.

“You know, I felt that [the strike] wasn’t going to take that long because…we do move the city,” says one Circulator operator who has been driving for 13 years.
