President Biden has vowed to veto any resolution blocking the D.C. bill.

The D.C. bill Republicans are trying to block would require body camera footage of police shootings to be made public within five days, create a public database of sustained police misconduct cases, and more.

The House resolution would block a number of police reforms in D.C., like the required release of body camera footage and the prohibition of neck restraints.

The new law puts in place a randomized internal review process for examining police body camera footage.

Some of these initiatives will take effect in the coming months, while other parts will go in Hogan’s budget proposal in January.

Laws to reform police, improve workplace conditions, and establish implicit bias training for health professionals are coming to Maryland.

The settlement is a fraction of the almost $18 million the county spent fighting the lawsuit.

Advocates say that improving police accountability in D.C. requires knowing which officers have had disciplinary action, which is currently kept from the the public. The legislation would also create a new deputy D.C. auditor for public safety position and strengthen the independent Office of Police Complaints.

The decision by the Alexandria City Council drew objections from the city’s school board.

It’s a list of officers who are not allowed to testify in trials.
