Fresh Food Maven
Donné Malloy is fanatical about fresh food. She ran the H Street Farmers Market for six years when she was a manager at Fresh Farm Markets, but a couple of years ago she decided she was ready to venture out on her own. The NoMa Farmers Market, running from June through late October, is the first market Malloy is running under her new brand.

Getting Down with Drum Circle’s Dance Instructor
Few events showcase the diversity of the District more than the weekly drum circle in Malcolm X/Meridian Hill Park. Many colorful figures grace this scene, but few stand out more than Thomas House, the drum circle’s de facto dance master.
In one of DCist’s earliest jazz posts, we lamented that local jazz artists and venues were lagging behind other parts of the D.C. arts scene in getting information on the internet. Things have changed for the better during the past four years. In 2010, CapitalBop emerged as a welcome addition to the District’s jazz community. The site is as much a venture in advocacy and activism for this music as it is a foray into jazz journalism, making it as comprehensive an online resource as this city has ever had.
