The heart of the mayoral candidate’s plan is 10,000 new government jobs, a significant increase in the size of the city’s workforce. It would cost $1.5 billion a year.
At-large Councilmember and mayoral candidate Robert White challenged the validity of nearly 3,000 of Trayon White’s ballot signatures, which could have knocked him out of the running in June’s mayoral primary.
“Our best tool for preventing crime is violence interrupters,” says White, arguing that Mayor Muriel Bowser hasn’t invested enough in the approach.
This is the first election cycle where mayoral candidates will have access to public financing, and all three major contenders have said they will take it.
