How Do Lanes Of Traffic Get Reversed On Weekdays?
Four times a day, each and every weekday, a choreographed dance of the streets happens across the District. A number of lanes of traffic, and in some cases entire roadways, change direction for the duration of rush hour.
Metro’s grand plan to ease rush-hour congestion by attempting to divert Blue Line passengers onto the Yellow Line isn’t working out quite as well as envisioned, the transit agency said Friday.

Metro’s Rush Plus Rush Hour Service Kicks Off Today
If your rush hour commute on Metro seemed different than usual, that’s because it probably was—today Metro kicked off its Rush Plus rush hour service.
Rush hour just south of Dupont Circle turned into a wet, muddy mess this morning after a large water main beneath the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and N Street NW broke open.
Of all the things that could happen inside a car stuck in rush hour traffic, a passenger going into labor is probably the most inconvenient and nerve-wracking. But that’s exactly what happened at 6:41 p.m. yesterday in Arlington.
The rules of Metro has numerous but generally well-accepted. Residents know not to eat or drink on trains, and people playing music loudly will often get dirty looks from commuters who enjoy the relative silence of their morning ride to work. As for bikes, it has long been the rule that they’re not allowed on trains during rush hour. Should that change?
