What’s That You Say?
As usual, you said a lot of funny and thought-provoking stuff last week. But like LeVar Burton, don’t take our word for it, and read on for Georgetown protests, monkeyrotica running a museum, and GMU fraternities, among other things. —— monkeyrotica would be an awesome director of the National Museum of Health and Medicine: The disorganized state of the Army Medical Museum is an example of vicious circle funding: hardly anybody visits the place because…

Go Home Already: Time Out
>> Vice President Dick Cheney is claiming that, for the purposes of securing classified information, his office is not part of the executive branch. Exactly which branch are you in then, Mr. Vice President? [Raw Story] >> Are you ready for another severe thunderstorm alert? The National Weather Service just issued one from now until 10 p.m. >> There’s a book launch party tonight for Murray Waas’ The United States vs. I. Lewis Libby. Somehow…

Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems for Wizards and Agent Zero
Gilbert Arenas pulled a trick out of Kobe Bryant’s PR playbook over the weekend, trying to worm his way back into the NBA spotlight (during the Finals no less) by informing everyone that he intends to exercise his player option after next season and look to sign a new, more lucrative contract extension. But don’t worry folks, it’s just business. “To me, it’s just a smarter business decision to play next season, opt out…

Wizards Gear Up For Off Season
A scant 21 days remain until my favorite day of the entire year, the NBA draft. And while Cleveland and San Antonio start the NBA finals tonight (9:00 p.m. on ABC), the rest of the league, including the Washington Wizards, are firmly entrenched in the off season. What’s in store for Team Zero? Let’s take a look. The Wizards have roughly $38 million in guaranteed salaries committed to the core of the team next…

Gilbert’s Swag Is Still Phenomenal
Can it get any better for Gilbert Arenas right now? The Wiz may have lost at Toronto yesterday, but if you’ve been paying attention, that was almost inevitable after the week Gilbert (and the team) just had. It started early last week when Arenas was named Player of the Month for December. It continued on Wednesday when Agent Hibachi scored the game winner as the buzzer sounded against budding rival Milwaukee. On Friday he…

Yellow Arrows Point the Way to D.C.’s Punk Past
Watch carefully in the coming weeks and you may see them. People roaming the streets of Chinatown, Adams Morgan, Mt. Pleasant. They’ll stop to check their cell phone, punch the keys, wait, check again, then move walk down the street looking with strange interest at empty buildings, houses and random Starbucks. Yellow Arrow’s Capitol of Punk tour, which we previewed in May, kicked off this week, turning D.C. streets into an impromptu museum for a…

We Scream for Amy’s
Perusing the dessert menu, we’re always a bit skeptical when we come across something such as “ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry)” or some permutation thereof. If nothing else seems appealing, and we’d like a bit of ice cream, then we take the chance. If we’re lucky, we’ll get some good local stuff from Thomas Sweet or Gifford’s. Or on the corporate side of things, we’ll likewise feel honored to scarf down some Haagen-Dazs, particularly any…

Wizards Face Hughes, Fall in Cleveland
Leading into last night’s Wizards game, we’d all heard so much about Gilbert Arenas dropping 41 (then a career high) on Larry Hughes the last time they faced each other on opposing teams, that you just felt the Wiz were due for a letdown on the road in Cleveland. Sure enough, Arenas, fresh off being named Eastern Conference Player of the Week following his 43 point outburst against San Antonio, shot 4-for-17 and dropped a…

Wizards Win Home Opener, Stay Undefeated
DCist was lucky enough to get Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood on our NBA fantasy team this year and so far all three are making us look like a regular Ernie Grunfeld. On Saturday night Arenas and Jamison combined for 53 points and 16 rebounds while Haywood pulled down 10 rebounds and added four blocked shots and the Wizards won their home opener 87-79 over the Orlando Magic. But the team’s offense…

Morning Roundup: Oh Henry! Edition
Yesterday DCist broke the news that Rep. Henry Bonilla, a Texas Republican, was looking to rename 16th Street NW after Ronald Reagan — adding one more dedication for the nation’s 40th president to the 67 that already exist in 24 states. Word spread fast — before the end of the day, Rep. Tom Davis III (R-Va.), whose committee would review the legislative proposal, encouraged Bonilla to “name anything else he has to look at his…
