In less than two months, the giant pandas at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo will return to China. And with them goes one of the region’s biggest tourist draws.

The zoo is still trying to confirm the euthanized fox was the culprit that slaughtered 25 flamingos and a duck.

The fox apparently slipped into the flamingo habitat through a “softball-sized” hole, slaughtering more than two dozen birds.

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo announced a three-year extension of its giant panda agreement Monday.

Opening to the public on Saturday.
