House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made the announcement on the anniversary of the Organic Act of 1801, which stripped the District of congressional voting rights.

The D.C. Council will hold a public hearing for a bill to construct statues of women and Washingtonians of color. Another bill takes aim at the city’s street and school names.

The person or group of people poured “a large quantity of white paint” and spray painted “Dead!!” in gold.

Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans said he had arranged for the statue to be removed, but the National Park Service put the kibbosh on his plan.

Quartz put it together using 2015 data from the Southern Poverty Law Center, which found more than 1,500 sites in public spaces.

Achieving statehood would obviously take a while, but how long should it take D.C. to get a single statue in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol? Just as long, as it seems.

And now we turn back to the most important issue in these trying times: just when in the hell is the District going to be getting its spots in Statuary Hall?
