Driving a Metrobus is an incredibly difficult job — but probably never more so than when a kid unexpectedly leaps out into the street. Sometimes, Metrobus drivers can manage to steer out of the way; sometimes, like in the video above, they can’t.

Amazingly, the 8-year-old boy who was caught on an on-board camera being hit by an X3 bus on Wednesday outside the the Oyster-Adams Bilingual School escaped the incident without major injuries. The bus was only driving between 10 and 15 miles per hour at the time of the incident — though even at that speed, a 27,500-pound bus can do plenty of damage.

Always look both ways before you cross, kids.
