Did you hear? There was a really gorgeous sunset last night.

Click Click: Post-Storm Sunset
A few DCist Flickr pool contributors captured striking sunset scenes after yesterday’s storm.
Believe it or not, we’ll all be reverting back to standard time this weekend, eschewing sunlight at the end of the day in exchange for no longer waking up in the dark.

Photo Booth: Sun, Set
You guys have sure been giving the sun a lot of photographic love of late. (The sun, for its part, has been doing its best to try and supply us with some cool astronomical phenomena to photograph.) Our DCist Flickr pool has been bursting of late with images of the sun calling it a day; with the darkness that descended on D.C. suddenly this afternoon, we thought that it might be a good idea to highlight some of the sweeping, dulcet sunsets that our photographers have captured over the last few days.

Sunset Rubdown @ Black Cat
There’s something inherently likable about about Spencer Krug. Just ask Wolf Parade bandmate Dan Boeckner who snidely referred to him as the guy that everybody likes. Although that was a clear barb, Boeckner has a point. Dante DeCaro, another fellow Wolf Parade member likes him enough to continue touring with Krug (under the moniker of opener Johnny & The Moon). Fellow Canadians Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes) and Dan Bejar (Destroyer) like him enough to work…

Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
With unseasonable weather descending upon much of North America, schools getting ready to reconvene, and sports seasons getting exciting, it’s a busy time of year for us here in the Ist-a-verse. Luckily, even with all the things we have to do, we still managed to get together to let you know what we’ve all been up to. After cooling down from a hot weekend of many badass Sunset Junction Street Fair photo dispatches, LAist asked…

About Tonight
>> Fort Reno soldiers on tonight, with Mess Up the Mess, Julie Ocean, and the final ever performance from Three Stars alums The Sentiment, who are calling it quits as a group after tonight. 7:15 p.m. >> Debuting tonight is “Bomb Shelter,” a weekly stand-up showcase featuring five local improv personalities. Why the militaristic name? Because there is no “bombing” here. The comedians promise to stun weapons of mass hilarity, which means no random drunk…

Major Green Line Delays
Hey Green line riders, are you by any chance just getting in to work right now? Yeah, we’re sorry to hear that, but there have been major Green line delays since 7 a.m. this morning, when a six-car train stalled and broke down on the inbound track near West Hyattsville. To make matters worse, a second train sent in to push the broken one down the track also lost power, shutting down the tracks entirely…

Photo of the Day: May 1, 2007
Happy May Day, Washington! Though you may be celebrating it as International Workers’ Day, I grew up seeing it as a marker that the winter’s last frost was behind us and a long, lazy summer lay ahead. Eye Captain’s photo of the Botanical Garden’s “Sunset Boat” by Dale Chihuly strikes me as particularly springtime-y. Has everyone taken a stroll through the new outdoor space at BoGa? Pop across the street to the newly refurbished…

ColorField.remix @ Hemphill Fine Arts
Back in the Swinging Sixties, Washington was home to a collection of artists who were dubbed forerunners of abstract, color field painting. As an integral part of this season’s ColorField.remix, a visitation of the legacy left behind by the Washington Color School painters, Hemphill Fine Arts presents a three-artist exhibition: Jason Gubbiotti’s Wrong Way to Paradise; Leon Berkowitz’s The Cathedral Series; and Portia Munson’s Pink Project: Contained. Although Jason Gubbiotti currently lives and works in…
