Supreme Court Takes D.C. Handgun Case

The Supreme Court has announced that it will take on Heller v. District of Columbia, the D.C. handgun case, and decide whether our city’s ban on handguns violates the Constitution. The Court will likely hear the case sometime in March, with a decision to come later in the session. Go Home Already: Courting Disaster

>> All you area students who planned on holding up provocative signs at your next high school event: think again. The Supreme Court ruled “Bong Hits 4 Jesus” was out of line, and that high schools are free to punish students in order to regulate their speech. Do you think “The Vice-President is in the Legislative Branch” would fly? It’s no less ridiculous. [WaPo] >> Foxhall Road will be a mess of construction for…

Morning Roundup: The News Cycle Edition

The nation is still transfixed on the latest coming out of Blacksburg, especially the startling images and words that have come out of the package Cho Seung-Hui apparently sent to NBC News between his two shooting sprees. Celebrate Oenophiliacs!

To the winos out there (like Miles Raymond of “Sideways” seen here), take note. The Supreme Court has ruled in a 5-4 decision to ban certain interstate commerce restrictions that have limited the reach of small- and medium-sized wineries nationwide. According to the Post, the high court said that interstate commerce “trumps the states’ rights to regulate alcohol sales.” The ruling could benefit local wineries gain access to various states with wine trade barriers,…
