D.C. Attorney General Linda Singer Resigns

Big news from the Washington Post: D.C. Attorney General Linda Singer has resigned after less than a year on the job. Singer tendered her resignation this morning, having reportedly been frustrated for months with her role in the Fenty administration. Fenty has been relying more heavily on General Counsel Peter Nickles, whom the mayor has apparently now named as the interim attorney general. Best Washington Post Headline Ever

Presented without commentary. Or much commentary, anyway. I’d like to see some suggestions for other kinds of stories for which this headline might be useful, so get cracking in the comments. UPDATE: Poor washingtonpost.com is taking a real beating today. Via Wonkette, it seems someone reposted the obituaries of Presidents Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford yesterday, in such a way that it seemed as though the Post was reporting their deaths very, very late….

Breaking News: Shots Fired in Capitol Office Building

We’re receiving word that shots have been fired inside the Rayburn House Office Building. The whole U.S. Capitol complex is shut down, according to reports on CNN. We’ll have more as it breaks. Update: So it seems to be the sound of shots that have been reported, and in the Rayburn Building’s garage. Staff are ordered to shelter in place. Update II: So it seems that one staff person heard what they thought were gunshots….

Updated – Shooting at Fairfax County Police Station

NBC 4 is reporting that shots have been fired at a Chantilly police station, and five people have sustained injuries, including four police officers. NBC 4 reports: Fairfax County Supervisor Gerry Connolly said he heard that four police officials were shot by a sniper and that the sniper was shot and killed. Connolly could not confirm either of those reports. Connolly also said that one of the victims, a female detective, was shot and killed….
