Virginia Lawmakers Conclude Special Session By Addressing Redistricting, VMI Investigation
In the final day of the lengthy session, Virginia lawmakers approved guidelines for a new bipartisan redistricting commission and set aside funding for an investigation into systemic racism at the Virginia Military Institute.
The statue will be relocated to the Virginia Museum of the Civil War and New Market Battlefield State Historical Park.
Superintendent J. H. Binford Peay III’s announcement came after the governor launched an investigation of the Virginia Military Institute in response to Black cadets’ reports of discrimination.
