Though it is the primary target of the Large Retailer Accountability Act, Wal-Mart is far from the only major big-box retailer that is reconsidering its future in D.C.

It’s just a drug store, but bigger.

A D.C. legislator moved to make sure that a new Walgreens set to open this week in Chinatown will be able to sell booze.

D.C. history will be divided into two chapters: Before the fancy Walgreens, and after the fancy Walgreens.

Under a set of proposed rules approved by the D.C. Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, pharmacies won’t be able to sell beer or wine unless they start offering a lot more food for sale.

Walgreens is a pharmacy. Or is it a grocery store? What exactly the retailer qualifies for is at the center of a fight over whether a Van Ness outlet will be able to sell beer and wine.

Wegmans and Walgreens have reportedly reached a settlement in which the grocer will stop using its “circle W” logo it had started using in 2008. Well geez, if that’s the standard we’re holding to for trademark infringement, the Washington Nationals might want to start thinking about alternate insignias. (I’d suggest keeping it simple.)

We know that the DCist audience is definitely one who appreciates a good brew, so we wondered how low you’d be willing to go. Walgreens has reportedly started to roll out beer to several of its stores. If this beer did arrive in D.C., how many of you — be honest — would cop to trying it out?
