Ex Hex, the latest musical project from Mary Timony, gave the Black Cat a lot to chew on as she kicked off her spring tour highlighting music from her upcoming full-length.

Ahead of tonight’s twentieth anniversary show for the Black Cat, DCist caught up with D.C. guitar virtuoso Mary Timony.

Anyone in D.C. who wasn’t watching the NCAA championship game last night packed into the sold-out 9:30 Club to witness post-punk dream team Wild Flag continue its spring U.S. tour. Although Carrie Brownstein threatened (or tempted, depending on your point of view) to project the game on a screen and play a “Jock Jams live soundtrack,” the band rocked a solid mix of new songs and crowd favorites.

What happens when you take a cult classic TV show and adapt it for a national tour of music halls? You get Portlandia, which arrived at the 9:30 Club last night. Was watching it live any better than on TV? Not really.

Are you a local band? Did you release a full length album in 2011? Did we forget to review it? If you answered yes to the first two questions, the answer to the third is probably also an affirmative. Oops. Our bad. We’re sorry. We’ll do better in 2012. Still, since “we’ll do better” doesn’t sound much like a retroactive “we’ll review your album,” relax. We’ll do that, too.
