Last night’s heavy rains are still causing major problems today as the control room of the Silver Spring metrorail station was flooded, making it inoperable. Trains on the Red Line are running on 30 minute delays between Glenmont and Takoma. WMATA is running limited shuttle bus service service to compensate. Trains are operating manually through the section of track where the control room is inoperable.

Several people across the area were trapped in their cars or drove into area waterways. In the District, Rock Creek was particularly troublesome. The Post reports this morning that a zoo police officer had to be rescued when floodwaters rose to up to his car windows. Elsewhere, two cars drove into Rock Creek near Park Road other cars were trapped further downstream underneath the Massachusetts Avenue viaduct while driving on Rock Creek Parkway.

At least one car was swept into Sligo Creek near Silver Spring. While nobody was seriosuly hurt, all DCist can say is yikes!
