This week, Politics and Prose will host both former Sen. Gary Hart (D-Colo.) and Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), the chamber’s longest serving member, as both politicians push their new books and their displeasure with the Bush administration.

Hart will speak tonight at 7 p.m. about his new book, “The Fourth Power: An Essay Concerning a Grand Strategy for the United States in the 21st Century.” In it, Hart explores the idea of pre-emptive war and how on top of American military, economic and political power, a fourth power, what he terms “the power of principle,” must be a guiding light.
On Thursday, Byrd, who has come out of semi-seclusion to rail against the Bush administration, will speak about his new book, “Losing America: Confronting a Reckless and Arrogant Presidency” at 7 p.m.

DCist wonders whether Sen. Byrd will be carrying around his pocket Constitution, something he is rarely without. On Sunday’s “Late Edition With Wolf Blitzer,” Byrd was stridently holding up his pocket Constitution when reiterating his contention that President Bush has been disregarding it, and the legislative branch as a whole.
