The Phillips Collection is currently showing three exhibits that end around Labor Day. DCist suggests taking advantage of the August doldrums to visit one of the capital’s more low-key museums. Part of the gallery is closed for renovations, but that should be no deterrant to visit, says the Post in its summer review of the gallery.
First up are two photography exhibits, one featuring the 1930s and 1940s work of German landscape photographer August Sander. (“Yew Tree in Spring” is at right); the second looks at the work of noted 20th century American photgrapher Aaron Suskind.
The Phillips Collection also offers a rare glimpse of the work of 20th century painter Georges Rouault, in an exhibit organized by Phillips, the National Gallery and the Library of Congress.
