From DCist contributor Catherine Andrews:

It’s a dreary Tuesday here in the District, with no end in sight to the August humidity. But fear not, fellow DCists! We’ve got some entertainment picks for this evening that should have you kicking up your heels and forgetting the workaday woes (and those pesky terror threats) for the night.

First, you can take a walk down musical memory lane with your pick of a couple of retro events: Everybody’s favorite Canadian prog-rockers Rush play the Nissan Pavilion tonight as part of their 30th anniversary tour. While DCist isn’t exactly what one would call a huge Rush fan, you’ve gotta admire a band who can keep it together for three decades. The Pavilion opens at 6:00pm; lawn tickets will run you $31.00.

But if the ’80s were more your thing, then the performance of ’80s icon Cyndi Lauper tonight at Wolf Trap should suit your fancy. As children of the 80s, DCist holds a secret place in our heart for “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” C’mon, you know you do too. The show starts at 8:00 p.m.

Feeling in the mood for some Texas twang? Then you should check out the little-known Derailers, who hail from Austin, TX and play some of the best honky-tonk around. They’re bringing their alt-country influences to the Iota tonight at 8:30; tickets are $18.
