Meghan Keane, the editor of the popular local blog Swamp City, is calling it quits, leaving Washington and starting a newspaper job in New York. DCist wishes Keane well. She’s been blogging for about a year and developed a loyal audience.
We wonder who will carry the torch and analyze the “stellar” Capitol Hill feature writing of The Hill’s Betsy Rothstein.
Swamp City writes Washington a good-bye note:
I know you think it’s cute how you increased your security level right before I’m about to leave, but if there’s one thing NY’s got covered, it’s the threat of terrorism. And to be honest, it made you look a bit desperate.
Don’t get me wrong. I know NY will never love me the same way you do. Sure, I’ll miss saving money and taking advantage of your reasonable standard of living. But you haven’t been exactly subtle about our disinterest in me, either. I mean, I dealt with getting mugged at gunpoint, but when you had a police officer tell me to “Go back to Connecticut!!” last week, I finally realized how low we had sunk.
