In case you don’t get outside the confines of the Beltway, Washington has a lot of suburbs. In an indepth analysis of suburban sprawl, the Post points out that the suburbs have expanded at a very rapid pace since 1986.

DCist isn’t necessarily surprised, but is still shocked that now, even Charles Town, W.Va., is a D.C. suburb, where people drive in to the District for work. That’s 1.5-2 hours each direction driving without significant traffic!
