This summer hasn’t gone well for public transit in the District. Increased fares, (thankfully) short-lived tiny trains, and persistent problems on the Red Line have Metro riders talking about a union, and letter writers in the Post on Sunday griping about lax security.
(See DCist: Commuting for all the fun) After all this, now seems like a good time to go stick it to the man, or at least ask some tough questions.
You’re in luck … Tomorrow, the Sierra Club and the Washington Regional Network are sponsoring a free event, titled “Making Metro Work: Addressing Metro’s Funding Crisis” tomorrow, Aug. 11th. The forum features Robert Smith, the chairman of Metro’s board of directors, and Christopher Zimmerman, another board members. The free event starts with “refreshments” at 6:00 p.m. in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW), and the organizers ask attendees to RSVP by calling the Washington Regional Network at 202-667-5445 or email staff (at) washingtonregion.net.
