District animal officials investigated a report that farm animals were being kept behind a church on Parkwood Place NW and found that on top of a chicken kept in a cage, a number of pigeons were cooped up. The Post reports that when told that keeping farm animals was illegal in D.C., the chicken was eaten by its owners and the pigeons were surrendered.
In other animal news, the National Zoo’s new tiger cubs made their first public appearance.
The Post also notes that a rabbit, a chihuahua and a kitten were abandoned in Southeast. The rabbit, which was found dead in a cage, was left out with trash on Alabama Avenue. Meanwhile, a Auger Place property manager found a chihuahua and a kitten left behind by previous tenants.
