Kaplan and Newsweek’s “America’s Hottest Colleges” “Get into College” guide ranked George Washington University #1 for “political junkies” on its list of hottest colleges and universities earlier this month.
“With a campus next door to the World Bank and down the street from the White House, GW is a poli-sci major’s dream” raves Newsweek in this online article, and “[GW] has near limitless opportunities for those interested in politics and a real-life laboratory setting” boasts the university in an August 12 press release.
The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the alma mater of a few DCists and which has a large and active alumni club branch in the District ranks #1 in the “Greeks with brains” category:
“A smaller university might excel in one subject but not everything,” says spokeswoman Julie Peterson. “We give our students everything.” That includes a lively social life. About 15 percent of undergrads go Greek … Fraternities and sororities are especially popular with the many out-of-state students …
Meanwhile, Kaplan’s competetors over at the Princton Review have their own rankings for the District’s institutions. Interestingly, Howard, American, GW, and Georgetown all appear on the “Great College Towns” list …
