Scientists are still baffled as to the cause of the massive Atlantic croaker kill from a month ago. Millions of croaker fish washed ashore on the Delaware and Maryland shore, just before a busy beach weekend. Since then, more fish have washed up in Florida and Virginia.

The first hypothesis was that a sudden upwelling of cooler water caused the fish to go into shock. But now, a number of leads are being investigated, the Post reports.

Other culprits could include bacteria and a virus. Anyone for fried croaker tonight? Yum.

While Florida seems to be a logical prime target, any turn to the north or northwest could bring the storm into Georgia, the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic. It still is worth watching, espeically if you have beach plans for Labor Day.
