A new website has been launched highlighting deteriorating condition of D.C. public schools. So far the website, FixOurSchools.net, only features photos of Eastern Senior High School posted by site founder Marc Borbely. This photo shows a hole in the wall “near classroom 352” at the Eastern Senior High School. According to Mr. Morbely, he “gave a photo of this hole to the school board on June 16, 2004. No repairs were made as of September 8, 2004.”

Morbely has also posted an excerpt from an email he received from Chief of Facilities of D.C. Public Schools Gregory A. Williams, who wrote:

The bottom-line is that we do not have enough funds to do all the maintenance and repair work that is needed in our schools. We estimate that our need for funding is $300 million per year (capital and operating) our current budget (FY05) is approx. $170 million (capital) and $30 million (operating). This means, simply put, there is approx. $100 million worth of maintenance and repair work that goes undone (this becomes “back-log” of maintenance and repair).

Interestingly, although the D.C. government website lists the website of Eastern Senior High School to be EasternHighSchool.org, that URL now points to a pornography website.
